Whether it’s your first float or you’ve been regularly using floatation therapy for years, there are a multitude of tips and tricks that can make your experience even better. We have personally researched and practiced the following 5 tips to be the easiest and most direct means to an amazing day at Souler Float.

1. Breathe Deeply
Consider spending 10-15 minutes prior to your float preparing to relax. We have a lovely Himalayan Salt Relaxation Lounge at Souler Float that’s full of ambiance and aroma therapy. You are encouraged to hang out before and after your float.

The pod will inherently relax you, but what better way to get the most out of your float than going into it already more relaxed? It’s so much easier to surrender if you set the stage accordingly.

Breathe deeply and consciously through your nose, close your eyes—this helps the brain to begin producing the more relaxed alpha waves which you pass through on your way to the theta waves produced in the most restorative part of a float.

Once in your suite, you can continue these mindful breaths in the shower, too.

Upon entering the pod, increase your level of relaxation right away by calmly yet persistently keeping awareness of your breath. If it is rapid or sporadic, slow it to a longer and more rhythmic pace all the way down to the depths of your belly. Tuning into the breath is a great way to become more present to the moment, as the breath is always here and now.
And, now is all there ever really is.

2. Ditch Caffeine
It’s recommended that caffeine be avoided leading up to a float. That cup of coffee might fuel your normal morning routine, but it can be a huge distraction when you’re trying to minimize external factors. Avoiding caffeine prior to a float allows the body to really relax, and can help to quiet busy minds—caffeine and other stimulates do just that: stimulate. The deepest floats arise from the least amount of stimulation—outside, and inside. If possible, consider avoiding caffeine the entire day of your float!

3. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Every aspect of our bodies operates better when we are hydrated. If we’re struggling to remain hydrated, it only makes sense that reaching deep states can be less obtainable. Keeping water intake high following a float is always crucial, but starting the day off right foot by hydrating leading up to a float is even better. And since you’re ditching the caffeine anyway, drinking plenty of water should be a breeze. Upon your arrival at Souler Float, you’ll be provided with a bottle of chilled or room temperature water. Take your time, sip your water, and prepare for a beautiful hour ahead. Floats allow us to deeply tune in and relax, and showing up well hydrated will ensure an aligned float experience.

4. Avoid Salt in the Eyes
At some point we all learn it: it’s nearly impossible to NOT touch your face while floating. The no-salt-in-eyes success rate is quite low. During-float itches can be a momentary distraction, but refraining from touching your face at all while in the pod is the best way to make sure your entire float is as deeply relaxing is it can be. At Souler Float, we provide two face cloths. It is recommended that you take one in the pod and drape it over the hinge of the pod door and use that instead of salty your fingers. It can be easy to forget in our relaxation that we are floating in 1,100lbs of medical grade Epsom salt; but for the ultimate float, try to keep those hands underwater.

5. Extend Your Relaxation
Our minds tend to process and analyze as soon as they’re given a chance to let us know it’s time to be productive. The good news is, our minds belong to us, and we can choose to do differently than they may suggest. Instead of hurrying back into the dense, 3D world after floating, consider extending your float with time to reflect and soak in the experience. Again, utilize our amazing Relaxation Lounge! Feel free to leave a note and/ or browse the experiences written in our client book located in the lounge—this not only gives our clients a space to express and explore their float, it also gives you a beautiful collection to look back on.
